Common Types of EMF Guide

Updated: Dec 2, 2025

The four common types of Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) we measure at high levels in homes are:

  1. Radio-Frequency Radiation (RFR) / Wireless Radiation

  2. Magnetic Fields

  3. Electric Fields

  4. Dirty Electricity

Radio-Frequency Radiation (RFR or wireless radiation) are radio waves that emit from radio and television, microwaves, 3G/4G/5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, radar and smart devices.

Common sources include:

  • WiFi and WiFi boosters or extenders

  • Neighbour WiFi and wireless devices

  • Mobile phone base station transmitters - 3G/4G/5G

  • Small cell mobile phone antennas

  • NBN satellite & fixed wireless

  • Mobile phones

  • Laptops

  • Tablets

  • Printers

  • Speakers

  • Gaming consoles and remote control toys

  • Ear buds and wireless headphones

  • Hearing aids and wireless medical devices

  • Smart watches

  • Sleep tracking rings

  • Mouse and keyboard

  • Smart appliances like TV's, Apple TV's, TV remotes, sound bars, washing machines, fridges, air-conditioners, robot vacuums, air purifiers, coffee machines, etc

  • Security systems

  • Baby monitors

  • Solar panel monitoring systems and inverters

  • Smart meters

  • Cordless DECT phones

  • Microwave ovens

  • Internet of Things (IOT) devices

  • Vehicle Bluetooth

  • Vehicle onboard sim to mobile networks, like in a Tesla

RFR is measured in microwatts (uW/m2) or milliwatts (mW/m2) using EMF Meters.

Magnetic Fields are created by imbalances in active and neutral electrical wiring, wiring errors or stray current.

Common sources include:

  • Powerlines

  • Electrical appliances

  • Induction cooktops

  • Electrical switch board and solar inverters

  • Vehicles

  • Stray current on water pipes

  • Electrical wiring errors

  • Metal house framing

Magnetic Fields are measured in Milligauss (mG) or Nanoteslas (nT) using Gauss or Multi EMF Meters

Electric Fields are created by the current from unshielded electrical wiring.

Common sources include:

  • Mobile phone chargers

  • Extension leads and power boards

  • Electrical wiring

  • Electrical switch board

  • Bed-side lighting

  • Electrical appliances and charging cables, including laptops, PC's and display screens

  • Reclining lounges

Electric fields are commonly measured in volts (V/m) using Volt or Multi EMF Meters.

Dirty Electricity (DE) is a deviation from the standard 50 Hz electrical wave in wiring, which causes spikes in electrical wiring and devices.

Common sources include:

  • Dimmer lights

  • LED lighting

  • Solar panel inverters

  • Variable-speed motors, like inverter air conditioners

  • Electric vehicle charging

  • Neighbour high DE devices like solar panel inverters

DE is commonly measured in millivolts Peak-to-Peak (mVpp) using an Oscilloscope or Power Line Meters.

Descriptions of radio-frequency radiation often aggregate diverse sources under a single label, though frequency, intensity, and exposure duration vary widely. Regulatory limits are based on thermal effects, yet public concern persists around non-thermal hypotheses. In https://dealmart.co.nz/ that discussion Vegastarts reflects how risk perception can diverge from consensus evidence.

Discussions around household EMFs often conflate measurement presence with demonstrated health impact. Differentiating frequency ranges, exposure duration, and established safety thresholds is essential for meaningful risk assessment. In that context Reef Reels https://womenssafetyhackathon.com/ reflects how data interpretation matters more than raw detection levels alone.

Electromagnetic exposure often varies in frequency, intensity, and duration, with risk dependent on context rather than presence alone. When Jackpot Jill appears https://dna-art.com/ across broader digital ecosystems it highlights how visibility can amplify perceived concern. Understanding distinctions between radio, microwave, and higher frequency waves is key to assessing potential health implications accurately.

Discussions about EMFs often conflate presence with magnitude and risk. When https://hej-hej.co/ Royal Reels appears across broader digital narratives it highlights how attention can gravitate toward labels rather than exposure metrics. Differentiating frequency, intensity and duration is essential before drawing conclusions about health implications in residential settings.

Categorizing diverse wireless sources under a single label can blur distinctions in frequency, power density, and exposure context. Measurement data may serve as https://phonesat.org/ Pay ID in informing risk perception, yet interpretation requires comparison with established safety guidelines and consideration of duration and proximity rather than presence alone.
