So what's all the fuss about 5G? And why are people so concerned about the health effects of this technology?
4G and 5G small cells (antennas) are to be installed every 100-300m, hanging low on existing light poles, exposing everyone to significant levels of unavoidable radio-frequency radiation. That's the concern. They will be positioned near your favourite beachside walking track, cafe, childcare centre, playground or right outside your own front door.
We call this 5G Phase 2. On the Gold Coast the 5G rollout started in 2018 with 5G Phase 1 bringing 5G antennas to our mobile phone towers and affixed to buildings. The installation of these antennas doubled and tripled the radiation output of most mobile phone antenna sites. And now 5G Phase 2 is in motion bringing small cell antennas with 4G & 5G to light poles all over most beachside suburbs.
Below is a list of small cells currently proposed on rfnsa.com.au (as at 12 December 2022), for Gold Coast beachside suburbs from Surfers Paradise to Coolangatta. These and possibly more will go live in early 2023, if not before then. This list does not include a number of small cells that are already active. Small cells are not currently proposed for Burleigh, Palm Beach, Currumbin, Tugun, Bilinga and Kirra.
