Friends and strangers often tell us they don't use WiFi at home because they understand it's harmful. But that leaves us wondering.... "if you don't use WiFi and you don't use ethernet connections nor have a cabled internet connection, how are you accessing the internet safely?"
Turns out, they are either wireless hotspotting from their laptop to their mobile phones or to a 4G or 5G modem, both potentially exposing their families to more radiation than using WiFi and significantly more than using a wired ethernet connection.
So how could wireless hotspotting to a mobile or 4G/5G modem potentially expose us to more radiation than WiFi?
there are more antennas emitting radiation
the mobile phone or 4G/5G modem emits higher than usual levels of radiation to maintain a strong mobile data connection to the nearest mobile phone tower (whereas the WiFi is cabled to the internet)
the mobile phone or 4G/5G modem emits radiation to connect to the laptop
the laptop emits radiation to connect to the mobile phone
the mobile phone usually sits close to the body (whereas the WiFi is often further away)
One factor that makes wireless hotspotting potentially less harmful than using WiFi is when the mobile phone or 4G/5G wireless hotspot is disconnected. When done, most people will disconnect their mobile phone hotspot and sometimes turn off their 4G/5G modems, whereas most people leave their WiFi on all day and don't turn it off when they are not using it.
Safer EMF does not recommend WiFi or wireless hotspotting because they both significantly increase exposure to EMF's. We do recommend that the safest way to access the internet at home and work is with an NBN connection, using ethernet cables, adaptors and a low EMF modem, but we also understand not everyone is in a position to make that happen. So what is a safer solution or compromise?
Low EMF hotspotting via usb cable
The solution we recommend is to create a wired hotspot with a long cable between the laptop and the mobile phone or 4G/5G modem. Not only is this safer, it's also faster, secure and more reliable than a wireless connection. This is also the ultimate travel hack for anyone that does use ethernet at home but needs to travel.
The radiation then travels from the mobile phone or 4G/5G modem through the cable rather than wirelessly through the air. A cabled connection enables the user to disable 2 of the 3 antennas (b. & c. above), substantially reducing exposure to wireless radiation. Using a long cable (we recommend 5 metres or more) further reduces exposure to the 3rd antenna (a. above) by ensuring there is distance between the body and the wireless device.
How to hotspot via cable to an iphone
See our video
Update your iphone and itunes software to the latest version
Grab your white mobile iphone charger cable and remove the charger
Connect the black USB cable into the laptop usb port (you will need an adaptor or hub you don't have a USB port available)
Connect the white mobile iphone charge cable to the black USB cable
Connect the white mobile phone charge cable to the iphone
On the iphone select "Trust" when the Trust this Computer? prompt pops up
Enter your Passcode when prompted
Move the iphone 4-5 metres away from where you plan to sit. Place it closer to where the 3G/4G/5G signal is stronger
On the laptop, go to Settings and turn OFF the WiFi and Bluetooth antennas
On the iphone, go into Settings and turn OFF the WiFi and Bluetooth antennas (if it says Not Connected or the icons are white, it is still emitting radiation, it must say OFF and have grey icons)
On the iphone, go to Settings and turn ON the Cellular and Personal Hotspot antennas
The picture shown above is for guidance only and you should move the mobile phone much further away, extending the black cable all the way out to 5+ metres
If you are not getting a connection there can be a number of reasons why this is and we recommend contacting a local IT Consultant to assist with trouble-shooting.
How to hotspot via cable to an android phone
We have not personally tested how to do this with all android phones, however, we have had 2 clients with Samsung Galaxy phones S10 & S21 try following this guide on youtube with success. You need to add a 5 metre USB2.0 male to female extension cable to increase the distance between your phone and laptop, and turn off bluetooth and WiFi on your laptop, to sufficiently reduce your exposure to EMFs,
How to hotspot via cable to a 4G/5G modem
Check the 4G/5G modem has an ethernet port (usually at the back or underneath)
Buy a long ethernet cable (we recommend 10 metres or more)
Buy an ethernet to USB or USB-C adaptor
Connect the ethernet cable to the ethernet port on the 4G/5G modem
Move the 4G/5G modem many metres away from where you plan to sit. Place it closer to where 4G/5G signal is stronger
On the laptop, go to Settings and turn OFF the WiFi and Bluetooth antennas
Even though it's not part of this solution, be aware that your mobile phone sitting next to you will exposure you to significant EMF's, so move that away from your body and consider using the Low EMF iphone settings to further reduce your exposure
Be sure to turn off the modem at the wall when you are finished using the internet because these modems emit significant levels of radiation
If you are not getting a connection there can be a number of reasons why this is and we recommend contacting a local IT Consultant to assist with trouble-shooting.
Be sure to take a mental note about how much better you feel using a wired connection. Your body will thank you with less symptoms of EMF exposure like less headaches, migraines, fatigue, pressure in the head, racing heart and insomnia.
